![]() 1908 Kaikorai Stream Bridge Replacement![]() A NEW BRIDGE OVER THE KAIKORAI STREAM NEAR THE ROSLYN TRAM TERMINUS. This design was adopted by the Roslyn Council for a bridge over the Kaikorai Creek, to relace the old timber floor of the structure, which had begun to show signs of decay. Instead of the usual arch the roadway is carried on a perfectly flat armoured or reinforced concrete, and is designed for a safe load of 20 tons. The abutments of the bridge bare also been lengthened, and the roadway thus widened to 27 feet between the parapets, in place of 18 feet as in the old wooden structure. The span is 18 feet. The work has been carried out by the Roslyn Council's own workmen, under the supervision of Mr C. Wedge, the town clerk and engineer. In appearance the bridge is light, and a great improvement on the original wooden affair. |
