When I taught in the 80s, the classes were labeled J1, J2, J3, which were the old P 1 – Std 1. (J was short for Junior) Std 1 was missed out and children went into std 2, then 3 and 4.

I am not sure what year it changed but would imaging it was at the time when Tomorrow’s Schools was introduced. When I left teaching in October 1990, we were in training for the change over. I think the names changed into Years at the beginning of 1991.
