What we did at Christmas - visit Santa in PixieTown
Those of us who were born in the 1930s and 1940s, and our children, remember Santa's Grotto in the DIC building in the Octagon and the animated pixies in the 'Magic Cave'.   The animated figures, animals, ferris wheels and other items were belt driven from a common shaft running under the display.

The Otago Settlers Museum has restored those fascinating pixies and has them performing at their best again for all to see.   The pictures below do not convey the entire spectacle as without the animation and associated sounds you are only getting a portion of the experience.

As with previous presentations by the Otago Settlers Museum, this is another which is a credit to their staff.
