FIRE AT KAIKORAI
On Sunday night Mr Crossleys wool-washing works at the Kaikorai were destroyed by fire. On going to the, works yesterday, we ascertained that the foreman in charge had been in the drying shed, turning over the wool which had been placed there to dry, and left it at 8 o'clock, everything, apparently being safe. About 9 o'clock flames were seen issuing, from the building, and several people were soon on the spot, but the shed being built, of wood, their exertions, aided by a copious supply of water, served only to save one-half of the premises. The other half., destroyed, comprised the drying-room and press-house. The loss is said to be about 18 bales of wool and a wool-press valued at £100. The premises were insured in the Standard office for £400.

The Otago Witness newspaper started in 1851 and ended in 1932.
