Stuart Street Extension
1952 earthworks just below Highgate during the construction of the Stuart Street Extension.
The Kaikorai cable car service ceased operation at 11.10p.m. on Friday 31st July 1947.

During the construction of the new road, public transport from the city to Kaikorai was bus diesel buses which had to follow a less than ideal route up Stuart Street, then detour around the construction site. The route take from Arthur Street junction was around Littlebourne Road, then after negotiating the various corners, arriving at Highgate via Tweed Street and Fifield Street.
