MEMEORIAL TREES.

On Saturday, August 23, 1919, a unique ceremony was carried out in the church grounds, when trees were planted to mark the end of the war. The Rev. W. Gray Dixon, M.A., Moderator of Assembly, presided, and gave an appropriate address on " Trees." Short addresses were also given by Councillor J. S. Douglas (Deputy Mayor of Dunedin), Dr. T. Harrison (President Returned Soldiers' Association), and Rev. W. R. Hutchison (Minister-elect of Kaikorai). The Kaikorai School Band, under Mr. J. H. Matheson, played suitable music, and the ladies provided afternoon tea for all.

The following trees were planted to represent the Ministers of Kaikorai Church:—
Rev. Wm. ALVES, First Minister; planted by Miss Gardiner and Mr. Adam Sinclair.
Rev. ALEXANDER BLAKE, Second Minister; planted by Messrs. D. Ross and J. Moir.
Rev. R. R. M. SUTHERLAND, Third Minister; planted by Messrs. Alex. More and J. S. Nelson.
Rev. W. R. HUTCHISON, Minister-elect; planted by Rev. W. Gray Dixon and Mrs, J. Robertson and Mr. J. C. Wilson.
In addition, the following named trees were also planted:—
JUTLAND: To the Navy; planted by Deputy Mayor and Dr. Harrison.
JERUSALEM : Peace Tree; planted by Miss J. C. Christie and Mr. J. W. Todd (representing the Sunday Schools).
GALLIPOLI: Soldiers' Memorial Tree; planted by Sons of Rev. R. R. M. Sutherland and Mr. Jas. Hunter.
SOMME: Soldiers' Memorial Tree; planted by Mr. R. S. Wardrop and Mr. Alex. Sinclair.
MESSINES: Soldiers' Memorial Tree; planted by Messrs. R. Hosie and Thomson.
PASSCHENDAELE: Soldiers' Memorial Tree; planted by Messrs. Jos. Crockett and Mathieson.
BAPAUME: Soldiers' Memorial Tree; planted by Miss Bartlett and Mr. Robert Gibb.
